It is well known that depression has led many people to commit suicide, but few people, particularly men, talk about it.
They suffer in silence until they take the easy way out. What's even more heartbreaking is that some people in society don't recognize the signs of depression, and those who do rarely refer the person to a place where they can get help.
TQ met a young lady who had lost a brother. Nobody in the family knew he was depressed.
The young man showed no signs, which perplexed the family when they discovered him dead in his room.
That is, until they discovered a note under his pillow in which he explained why he chose to end his life.
He discovered his lover was dating his uncle, who had more money than him, and she had left him.
TQ's heart sank when the young lady revealed the tragic end to her brother's life. But that wasn't all she and her family had to deal with.
They became the talk of their own neighborhood, which was quite disturbing. Without knowing the circumstances surrounding his death, some labeled the deceased as weak, unmanly, and a cheese boy.
That was heartless and cruel to the family, to say the least. The very society that they expected to support them ended up mocking their departed loved ones.
This has to stop. Depression is not a joke; it is a real condition for which we should all band together and lend a helping hand to those in need.
TQ's request is straightforward: don't aggravate the families of those who have lost depressed loved ones.
Stay in your lane and mind your own business if you can't help them in any way. While you're at it, put yourself on mute in such situations, finish, and klaar.
